Bailey just doesn't want to look at the camera

Hi, my name is Carole McFarlane. I am an animal lover, as true as they come. I have had pets all my life and I believe that they are part of our families. I would just be lost without them. I have had many dogs in my lifetime, everything from a toy poodle to a great dane. I've also had cats, ferrets, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, and ducks.

I currently have 2 middle aged dogs. Pooh Bear is an adorable Blue Chow Chow. She is not your typical Chow in the sense that she is so very loving and gentle and crazy about other dogs. She is the sweetest and most sensitive companion anyone could want. Other than her barking, which we are working on, she is extremely well behaved. She was the runt of the litter and now weighs in at a mere 40 pounds, very small for a Chow. But all of this aside, she does what is expected of her breed, guard. And guard she does. Always near me. Never on my lap as she has to guard me. This is her goal in life, along with her love for me.

I got Bailey, my Lhasa Apso, from a Shih-Tzu rescue organization in December of 2000. He had been abused and hated women. When I brought him home he continually growled and snapped at me. Its been a long road getting him to trust, but we are finely THERE! He now loves everyone he sees, including me, :-). He has turned out to be a very lovable little guy.

When I was young I worked for several veterinarians. Between this experience, many years of caring for animals, and plenty of research, I am quite knowledgeable about animal care and first aid. I've had to deal with first aid as well as the occasional emergency. I know that caring for a pet is more than ensuring they have food and water and get outside a few times a day. Caring for a pet means giving them love and attention, playing with them, walking them, spending time with them.

I am quite opposed to the use of drugs whenever there's a homeopathic substitute. For years I have given my guys a combination of Brewers Yeast and Garlic to ward off fleas and ticks. Even when a neighbor's dog, who had fleas, paid my dogs a daily visit (over a 2 month period) they did not have even one.
